FILM STRINGS

Hey everyone, I just put together a brand new strings sample library for Decent Sampler and I am super excited to share it with you.

The library covers the full orchestral string family and is split into five dedicated sections:

  • basses (sustain, staccato, tremolo & pizzicato)
  • celli (sustain, staccato, tremolo & pizzicato)
  • violas (sustain, staccato, tremolo & pizzicato)
  • violins I (sustain, staccato, tremolo & pizzicato)
  • violins II (sustain, staccato, tremolo & pizzicato)

You can change the articulations by keyswitch or by drop down in the GUI.

If I had to describe the vibe of this library, I would call it silkily brilliant. It combines a really soft, beautiful texture with crystal clear highs. It also sounds incredibly three-dimensional, giving you an enormous sense of spatial depth through a great interplay of warmth and detail. Despite all that emotional fullness, the sound is very assertive and stays present and perfectly defined in your mix. It basically gives you that cinematically massive wall-of-sound feeling you hear in modern Hollywood productions, while remaining lyrically precise. It strikes a really nice balance between a breathing, human expression and technical exactness.

Multiple Round Robins and Velocity Layers

Under the hood, all five instruments are packed with multiple velocity-controlled round robins and velocity layers that are controlled via the CC1 modwheel. I also integrated a solid FX section right into the UI. You get high and low cut filters, 10 different IR reverbs, a DAW-synced delay, attack and release controls, and legato glides. Everything is delivered in pristine 24-bit, 44.1 kHz quality.

A huge shoutout goes to Versilian Studios where the samples were originally recorded, and all the audio processing and fine-tuning was carefully handled by Overstratum Audio. To make your workflow as smooth as possible, CC1 and CC11 are already pre-mapped. On top of that, all the instruments are perfectly leveled against each other right out of the box, meaning the whole library is totally mix-ready from the moment you load it up. Happy composing!
